The General Electric 514 is a 5-tube clock-radio that measures 10.6 x 6.2 x 6.2 inches. My unit was made around 1953. The chassis is the same as that used in the 542 and 543, which is why this page features all 3 model numbers.
This radio was given to me as a Christmas gift and worked, so I assumed it would be a good idea to re-cap (the capacitors in it were the originals) it and service the Telechron rotor. When turned on initially, it would play and got pretty good reception.

The re-cap was kind of difficult because of the small chassis size, so I wouldn't recommend this as a starter radio (I would recommend a General Electric 514, 542, or 543). However I did manage to fit everything in.

The radio still wouldn't play after the re-cap, so I checked the tubes, volume potentiometer, and the output transformer. From there, I found that the primary of the output transformer was open (it should be 170 ohms using a VOM/VTVM), so I ordered a N.O.S. Merit A-2998 transformer (the one specified in the service manual).
